In the late 1990s, eight-year-old Sasha and her family relocate to a new home on Vancouver Island, but their fresh start is interrupted by increasingly dangerous behavior from the eldest son, Jeremy. At wit's end, their parents are presented with a shattering choice.

The film world premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, where it won the Swatch First Feature Award, before its Canadian premiere at TIFF, where it won the Best Canadian Discovery Award. Selected as one of the Letterboxd crew's fifteen favorite films from the 2025 fall festivals, and at the time of its launch on Letterboxd Video Store, "Blue Heron" ranked in the Top 25 films of the year and the Top 250 Films by Women Directors on Letterboxd.
