Filipiñana

BEHIND THE PERFECT FAIRWAYS, SOMETHING IS ROTTEN.

At an exclusive golf club outside Manila, a young “tee girl” sets out to return a misplaced golf club to the club’s director. As she wanders through the pristine grounds, she begins to uncover the inequalities and troubling secrets lurking beneath the resort’s immaculate surface, confronting unsettling truths about the club, the Philippines and her own past.

Executive produced by acclaimed filmmaker Jia Zhangke, “Filipiñana” marks the feature debut of Filipino director Rafael Manuel, expanding on his 2020 short of the same name, which won a Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. With its dreamlike atmosphere, carefully composed imagery and quietly biting social commentary, Manuel delivers a distinctive take on the class divide, where the absurd and the unsettling sit side by side. Winner of the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Vision at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and hailed as “a masterwork” by The New Yorker, the film marks an exciting new voice in Filipino cinema.
