The Velvet Gang, a crew of professional shoplifters led by aspiring designer Corvette, target cutthroat fashion icon Christie Smith after she steals one of Corvette's designs. They plan to boost Smith's entire inventory, and in doing so accidentally spark a movement for retail and factory workers around the world. It’s like community service.

The opening night film of SXSW 2026 and the second feature from Boots Riley, whose debut "Sorry to Bother You" premiered at Sundance 2018. A surrealist anti-capitalist comedy that takes aim at fast fashion with the same restless energy Riley brought to his debut. At the time of its launch on Video Store, "I Love Boosters" ranked in the Top 25 films of the year so far on Letterboxd.
