Thirteen-year-old Marcielle, known as Tielle, is growing up on Brazil's remote Marajó Island. As she comes of age, she begins to question the future expected of her in a community shaped by poverty, exploitation, and silence. Determined to protect her younger sister and forge a different path, Tielle confronts painful truths and finds the courage to break a cycle that has trapped generations of women before her.
Winner of the Venice Days Director's Award at the Venice International Film Festival, executive produced by Walter Salles, Sean Penn, and Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. The debut feature of Brazilian filmmaker Marianna Brennand, shot on location on Marajó Island with a largely non-professional cast.
At the time of its launch on Letterboxd Video Store, "Manas" ranked in Letterboxd's Top 50 Films of 2025 and the Top 250 Films by Women Directors.
