SUPPORT THEM. TAKE CARE OF THEM. BUT DON'T BECOME THEIR FRIEND.
Passionate and tough, Grace is a 20-something supervisor at a foster-care facility for at-risk teenagers. A formidable caretaker of the kids in her charge, Grace shares her life and work with her long-term boyfriend and co-worker, Mason. When Jayden, a gifted but troubled teenage girl with whom Grace has a charged connection, arrives at the facility, Grace's own difficult past, and the surprising future that suddenly presents itself, throw her into unforeseen confusion. Grace comes to find, in both her work and the new teenager in her care, surprising sources of redemption.
At the time of its launch on Letterboxd Video Store, "Short Term 12" ranked in the site's Top 500 Films of all time. Winner of both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at SXSW 2013, the film assembled an extraordinary cast years before the rest of Hollywood caught on. Destin Daniel Cretton's second feature; he has since gone on to direct "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" and "Spider-Man: Brand New Day." "Somehow I liked it even more on my second watch," says curator Kit Lazer.
