The Cousins (Les Cousins)
DESIRE TURNS BLOOD INTO RIVALRY.
A naïve law student from the provinces moves in with his charismatic, bohemian cousin in Paris who is also studying law. As both men become entangled with the same woman, their contrasting values turn into competition. What begins as a study of opposites gradually transforms into a dark moral reckoning.
The Cousins won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, cementing its place as an early triumph of the French New Wave. Claude Chabrol’s first film Le Beau Serge, featured the same lead actors in reversed roles.
